CIGARETTES ARE BAD FOR YOU!!!
Over the years there has been much debate over the use of tobacco, and by popular belief is that smoking is bad for you. I am sure that most people would believe this to be true as well. We could all debate how bad it is for you, but if you believe it is bad, we will just leave it at that. The U.S. Government thinks smoking is bad, even though Big Tobacco pays Billions of dollars each year to the U.S. Government but really, where has that money gone?
Onto what this is really about...
There are two very popular companies on the internet for purchasing products online, eBay and PayPal. These two companies go hand in hand, and they have for many years. Perhaps that is why eBay bought out PayPal in 2002. Both of these companies have recently been raising their ban hammer and targeting those who are vaping. I haven't contacted eBay or PayPal for comment, and I won't be either (they can feel free to comment if they see this though).
I can only assume that eBay is considering vaping products to be "Nicotine inhalers or nasal sprays", these are products that eBay considers to be a medical drug, or device [1]. Paypal is even more vague "violate applicable laws or industry regulations regarding the sale of (a) tobacco products, or (b) prescription drugs and devices." Personally, I could see how they could figure this, as I would consider Nicotine to be a drug. The FDA sure considers it to be a drug, or at least it looks like they do. I looked up Nicotine on the FDA website, and I found the following:
Nicotine.-The term 'nicotine' means the chemical substance named 3-(1-Methyl-2-pyrrolidinyl) pyridine or C[10]H[14]N[2], including any salt or complex of nicotine. [2]
It seems as if the U.S. National Library of Medicine also considers Nicotine to be a drug, at the very least they consider it to be addictive like alcohol, cocaine and morphine.
Really, nicotine is not a good thing, I don't think tobacco is either. Considering that anywhere you purchase tobacco products, in the U.S. you need to provide valid identification, I could understand why they are restricting it on their websites.
Vaping really does not have an official definition, at least from the FDA, or any other official channel, at least from what I have found. The way I would define it would be "Use of a device for inhalation of flavored vegetable / water soluble formula; could contain nicotine".
If you are running a legitimate operation, it is easy enough to obtain a credit card machine, to avoid using services such as Paypal. Also, having a website and running an online business does not require services like eBay.
