As time goes by I realize that my opinion to some people really does matter, to others, not to much. When someone asks me my honest opinion, I do my best to provide them with the most adequate information that I possibly can. I try to give people straight facts, and I make sure that I show them where I was able to find my information.
Today I was asked about a new video game, now this video game is a little under a month old. It meets the criteria that the person was looking for in a game, but I told them the truth about what I have heard about the game. Now, I don't like to bash games, at least until I have played it. But really, I have played loads of games over the years, and I like to give an objective look at the game.
Once we talked a little bit he asked me if I knew of any "Real Solid Console RPGs?", now, I am a huge Anti-Console person, as many people know, but I will not go into that right now. Now he is looking for some good games for XBOX, preferably an MMO, but really I am not aware of any of the HOT NEW Games for consoles, and why would I, I don't own a console, and I don't play on a console.
Next I talked to him about price, now anyone who is looking to buy a new game knows how much the game costs, and if you know how much it costs, then you know how much you have to spend. Now, he has $60.00 to spend on a new game, give for take a few extra dollars for tax of course. Now I think that if you spend $60 on a game, it needs to be that HOT NEW game that you have been waiting at least a year, perhaps longer to buy, you have been watching that release date, you have pre-ordered the game, and you are ready to pick it up at midnight if there is a release party.
Not everyone thinks like this though, they here something nice about a game, and what do they do, they go out and get the game. I was like that at one time, but now I am different, I wont generally buy a game unless it is on sale, and when it is on sale, I rank the games. If the game isn't at least 50% off, I generally wont purchase it. If it is 75% off I am more likely to purchase it. If the game is on my wishlist then I have likely been watching the prices for quite awhile and I know how much the normal retail price is, and I know how much the sale price is, and what they have been in the past.
Now if you are a console gamer, you don't have many choices for discount games, but I will tell you this. Unless this hot new game that you want came out like yesterday, then I wouldn't recommend you purchase it for full price, what happens is, you heard about the game, you're likely to put off completing the game for several months, and that is if you even finish the game. What I would recommend is going down to the nearest Gamestop or even Gamestop.com and browse their games, find the games you like, and find the ones that are the cheapest, I am sure you will find a few games that you haven't played yet, and perhaps even for dirt cheap.
If you're a computer gamer, then watch Origin and Steam for their sales, you might find that $60 game for sale in 3 months for 50% off, then you would feel like an ass for paying full price, wouldn't you!
*NOTE* Some games are worth kicking out the extra bucks for, as they will likely not drop in price or go on sale at least very quickly.
